look at this cheesy Ford repair.this is directly from ford
Ford
Popping noise from floor.
Some1999-2000 Mustangs may produce a popping or crackling sound from the
area of the driver’s-side floor while
being driven. According to Ford, the
noise sounds similar to a soda can being
crushed, and is caused by a
stressed portion of the floor pan
buckling and unbuckling from the
movement of the car. Peening the
floor pan with a blunt hammer should
help eliminate the irritation.
Start the job by disconnecting the
battery ground cable, then waiting at
least two minutes to allow the residual
voltage in the air bag module to
time out. Now peel back the carpeting
from the driver’s-side footwell
area. Next, measure 6 to 8 in. behind
where the driver’s heel would normally
rest when operating the accelerator
pedal. This is the area that
needs your attention.
Working carefully, smack the floor
with the hammer until you leave a
small indentation in the metal. Continue
working across the floor until
you’ve formed about a 1-in. trough,
or bead, in the pan. This should unstress
the floor pan and alleviate the
buckling that causes the popping
sound. To complete the fix, reinstall
the carpeting, reconnect the battery
cable and take to the open road to
verify that the noise has been eliminated.
